Surface Preparation

Surface preparation is a critical factor in achieving long-term system performance. At Engineered Coatings, we place careful attention on properly preparing all substrates prior to the installation of high-performance floor coating and resurfacing systems.

Thorough preparation—including the removal of surface laitance, contaminants, and weak or unsound material—is essential to ensuring proper adhesion. In fact, most coating failures can be traced back to inadequate surface preparation.

We utilize a range of mechanical, dust-controlled preparation methods—including shot blasting, diamond grinding, and scarification—selected based on the specific conditions of the substrate and the materials to be removed. All preparation is performed in general accordance with ASTM D4259 guidelines to achieve the required cleanliness and surface profile for optimal system bonding.
